Hello svmug members & friends!
The next meeting of the Silicon Valley Macintosh User Group (svmug) is on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 7:00PM. As always, meetings are open to the public and free to attend. Bring a friend! We are in our “usual” room: BODEGA BAY TECH TALK ROOM at Google in Mountain View, CA. See below for details and directions.
TOPIC & SPEAKER: Apple Music - Jeff Gamet
Apple Music is part radio station, part streaming music, part music storage, and part musician social network. That’s a lot for for a single new online music service, and depending on how you use Apple Music, it can be a little confusing. Jeff will show us the new features that Apple Music gives us and point out what’s changed from iTunes Radio and iTunes Match. We’ll also find out which devices support listening to Apple Music.
Originally we had Dave Hamilton lined up for our July presentation but things changed and Dave could not make it. Jeff works with Dave and will be our speaker this month. In 1998, Dave Hamilton and Bryan Chaffin started The Mac Observer (TMO), the best Apple-oriented site on the web. Jeff Gamet is the Mac Observer's Managing Editor. He is the author of "The Designer's Guide to Mac OS X" from Peachpit Press, and has presented at events such as Macworld Expo, the RSA Conference, and the Mac Computer Expo. He also hosts TMO's Daily Observations podcast, co-hosts The iOS Show and Apple Context Machine podcasts, makes guest appearances on several other shows, and writes about the crazy things people do in coffee shops at freshbrewedtales.com.

OPEN SOURCE: PocketSword presented by Dan Reed
Dan will talk to us about PocketSword for iOS. With PocketSword, you can download for free and read something like Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary, good for studying american history and the constitution. Of course you could also buy a physical copy online for $60. Other items include maps, commentaries, and Bible text. Bible texts come in a variety of translations and languages including Klingon! Practice reading in a different language using PocketSword.

SVMUG meetings occur on the 3rd Monday of each month (with some holiday exceptions). Meetings are free and open to the public. Audience members may arrive or depart at their convenience, so feel free to arrive late, or leave early if you wish.
SVMUG started as the South Bay branch of the Berkeley Mac User Group (BMUG), and lives on after the dissolution of the main organization. We hold monthly meetings on the Google campus in Mountain View, focusing on user support, vendor demonstrations, and community contacts.
