Hello svmug members & friends!

The next meeting of the Silicon Valley Macintosh User Group (svmug) is on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 7:00PM. As always, meetings are open to the public and free to attend. Bring a friend! We are in our "Normal" room: BODEGA BAY TECH TALK ROOM at Google in Mountain View, CA. See below for details and directions.

December’s meeting includes our annual holiday potluck so please bring something yummy to share at the party. A signup sheet was emailed to our yahoo group members recently. If you plan to attend and did not receive the potluck list, please contact us and let us know what you plan to bring:  pam at svmug dot org

You’ll need to bring your own serving spoons, tongs etc., for your particular dish.

Megan O’Brien from AgileBits will speak about 1Password software for Mac and iOS

Passwords are an inescapable part of life on the internet these days. It seems like each site you visit requires a username and password. This introduction to 1Password will discuss why unique passwords for every site are important, show you some techniques for creating strong passwords, and give you a brief introduction to 1Password’s interface and how it can help give you peace of mind by keeping your data secure and saving you time online.

About the presenter:

Megan O'Brien is on the social media and customer support team at AgileBits, the company that makes 1Password. When she's not typing forum posts for AgileBits, you’re likely to find her either exploring new places with her camera or hunched over her craft desk making something from her massive horde of craft supplies.  She lives in Toronto, Ontario with her husband and 2 cats.

If time permits, Robert Brown will talk about a special edible type of open source, otherwise, we will have a handout with the information for you.

We will be meeting at Google, in the Bodega Bay Tech Talk Room. If you have not been here before, please allow for some extra time to find the room. Often there is a giant white mobile "Hair cut van" parked in the parking lot near where a cafeteria for Google employees and the Bodega Bay room are located. If you are lost, call (408) 480-1690 and we will try to get you to the right place.

-- From Highway 101, take the Amphitheater Parkway exit, which is also Rengstorff Avenue; Head North.

-- Turn right (East) onto Charleston Rd.

-- Turn left (North) onto the Google complex, at the 3rd driveway entrance. Look at the map to verify the driveway's location since it is hard to see in the dark.

-- Look for the meeting room shown on the map.

NOTE:  If you are coming from the other direction on Charleston (coming from the East and driving West), once you cross the creek's bridge, turn RIGHT at the first driveway and go along the right side of the Google building. You'll most likely see the big white hair cut van parked there. You want to park near here. Look at the map to verify the driveway's location since it is hard to see in the dark.

We’ll have about an hour or so to relax with some good food and svmug friends. Meet someone new!

SVMUG meetings occur on the 3rd Monday of each month (with some holiday exceptions). Meetings are free and open to the public. Audience members may arrive or depart at their convenience, so feel free to arrive late, or leave early if you wish.

SVMUG started as the South Bay branch of the Berkeley Mac User Group (BMUG), and lives on after the dissolution of the main organization. We hold monthly meetings on the Google campus in Mountain View, focusing on user support, vendor demonstrations, and community contacts.
